A MOTHER’S LOVE SONG
( A substitute lyric written to the melody of Good Hearted Woman - by David Carr)
A son born to the mother
He's second to no other,
A love song that brightens each day.
Their life lines diverging
Their love lines converging,
She struggles to show him the way.
He listens and learns
As she teaches and yearns,
For the day he’ll stand grown by her side.
But life’s carriage rolls faster
She fears it has passed her,
She’s losing control of the ride.
While her scrapbook grows thicker
His single days flicker,
A flame burning out in the night.
His heart’s found another
Tears flow as the mother,
Prays that their future be bright.
Now the nest has been left,
And the mother’s bereft,
But it certainly won’t be for long.
For out of the blue,
They’ll return with, “Guess who?”
The grandchild, a Mother’s love song.
